Lesson 1
INTRODUCTION
Allow me to share with you how this website has emerged. When I finally understood that as a Christian, God is in me, and I am in him, I realized that he wants to do his work through me. Jesus says in John 14:12: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.” The ability to do these “greater works” is due to the Holy Spirit dwelling within believers, entitling them to act in Jesus’ name. Jesus wants all of us to spread the good word of the Gospel, so I asked Him to help me with the best way to do this. His answer to me was to build this website “Bible Studies for Beginners.” I pray and believe he will give me the right words to share the bible with you as I cannot do this without His help.
As you learn and understand the character of God and Jesus Christ, you will find that changes will start happening in your life. These changes may occur quickly, or in my case, it took me quite some time to notice the changes that were happening in my life. One of the happiest moments I experienced was when my niece, a woman in her mid-forties with three children said to me, “Uncle, I’ve noticed some wonderful changes you’ve made in your life.” I must confess that I was extremely happy to hear those words I had noticed several things myself, but it helped to have it confirmed by someone else. My language was much better, my patience increased substantially, and my anger was getting much better, although I still have a long way to go on that. So, I look forward to the time when you write or say to me that you have noticed the changes taking place in your life. I pray that this happens for you.
THE GREAT MYSTERY
Before we dwell into the four gospels in the New Testament, I’m going to skip forward to the great mystery that has been hidden for generations. The fall of man in disobedience to God by Adam in the Garden of Eden, has led us to sin. The apostle Paul says, “If in Adam, “we will sin.” So, living in Adam, or what I will call the “Adamic life”, we will continue to sin. All of us do. If you are a Christian, you know that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the forgivingness of sins. He died for us. Most people understand this, but what many don’t understand is that Jesus died for us so that he might live in us. But what does it mean? It means that by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and through the coming of the Holy Spirit, Jesus himself lives in us. Christ is living in us now, and we in him. God has put his love into our soul by the Holy Spirit. So, when you became a Christian, you have received Jesus Christ as the gift from God. You have received His righteousness, and you are no longer in Adam, but in Christ. This is the great mystery that many people still lack awareness.
The “Adamic Life” in the bible is referred to as “the flesh”, and the spiritual world is referred to as “the spirit”. This puts the world we live in as the flesh, and God as the spirit. It explains that as sinners we will most likely vacillate between the two because the bible states that “the flesh is against the spirit and the spirit is against the flesh.” The more aware you are as to which position you are in, you will start to see positive change in your life. You now have the ability to resist and can conquer temptation just as Jesus did in the wilderness. You are no longer a slave to sin. Jesus said, “if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home in him” (John 14:23). You now have what I will call “Jesus Power, or Resurrection Power” and no longer need to be a slave to the devil. You are never alone when Jesus is in your life. Jesus, through his death on the Cross has given us the way to eternal life. As you study the scripture, please remember that God says that each of us has his or her own ministry, and we should share and spread the word of the gospel. This can be done at any time, over a cup of coffee, at work, at home, everywhere there are opportunities. Remember, however, God doesn’t force us to read the scripture, so we are not to force anyone to do so. There is so much more on this as we go forward in our studies with the “New Testament”. I don’t recall where I heard or read the following, but it’s appropriate. When the student is ready, the teacher appears.
May God Bless You!
